Les tumeurs re\u00e7oivent cet apport en \u00abcommandant\u00bb la construction de vaisseaux sanguins. Un processus qui porte le nom d&rsquo;angiogen\u00e8se. Pour lancer ce processus, la tumeur envoie des signaux aux vaisseaux sanguins environnants. Cela passe par la lib\u00e9ration d&rsquo;un facteur, le VEGF (Vascular endothelial growth factor = facteur de croissance de l&rsquo;endoth\u00e9lium vasculaire). Le VEGF et d&rsquo;autres mol\u00e9cules s&rsquo;organisent pour que les vaisseaux sanguins environnants croissent en direction de la tumeur. L&rsquo;Avastin agit comme inhibiteur de l&rsquo;angiogen\u00e8se en se liant aux mol\u00e9cules de VEGF. Ces derni\u00e8res ne peuvent donc plus se fixer sur le r\u00e9cepteur du VEGF, et les vaisseaux sanguins ne peuvent plus se tourner vers la tumeur. Celle-ci voit diminuer son apport d&rsquo;oxyg\u00e8ne et d&rsquo;\u00e9l\u00e9ments nutritifs.
