En chirurgie, on proc\u00e8de \u00e0 l\u2019ablation de la tumeur par une coupe, par exemple \u00e0 l\u2019aide d\u2019un scalpel. Cette intervention peut \u00eatre tr\u00e8s efficace et amener la gu\u00e9rison si la tumeur est op\u00e9r\u00e9e suffisamment t\u00f4t et enti\u00e8rement enlev\u00e9e. Par contre, les choses sont plus difficiles si la tumeur a d\u00e9j\u00e0 form\u00e9 des m\u00e9tastases, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire s\u2019est r\u00e9pandue en d\u2019autres endroits du corps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La deuxi\u00e8me possibilit\u00e9 de combattre le cancer est la radioth\u00e9rapie. \u00c0 l\u2019aide de rayons dirig\u00e9s de mani\u00e8re cibl\u00e9e vers la tumeur, on d\u00e9truit le g\u00e9nome des cellules canc\u00e9reuses. Celles-ci meurent. Les rayons permettent d\u2019atteindre des tumeurs difficilement accessibles au scalpel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La troisi\u00e8me possibilit\u00e9 de traitement est la chimioth\u00e9rapie. Il s\u2019agit dans ce cas de lutter contre la tumeur \u00e0 l\u2019aide de comprim\u00e9s ou de perfusions. Les substances actives de ces m\u00e9dicaments attaquent les cellules canc\u00e9reuses et les tuent ou inhibent leur croissance. On utilise aussi des hormones et des anticorps pour lutter contre les cellules canc\u00e9reuses.
